Beginner
Course Fee: $305.20 inclusive of GST
This class is ideal for teaching complete new comers to the game. At the end of the course, trainees can expect to have a complete overview of the rules of chess, a rudimentary understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each chess piece, basic checkmating patterns, fundamental tactical motifs and many more. Trainees can also expect to play a complete game of chess with confidence.
Our focus for this course is to help new comers appreciate the beauty of the game and therefore, the lessons are expected to be fun and engaging. We will also provide guidance on general etiquette and lessons on sportsmanship during the course.
Please note that students will undergo an assessment during the last lesson. Students shall be promoted to the next level (Elementary) if they pass this assessment.

- Payment via HitPay using Paynow only.
- Confirmation of registration is subject to full course fee payment.
- Course fees paid are non-refundable. Pro-rating of course fees is NOT allowed.
- Trainers assigned by the SCF may be subject to changes.
- There are no make-up lessons.
- SCF reserves the right to accept/reject any trainees without assigning any reason

What's different about lessons at the Singapore Chess Federation?
We’re glad you asked! The Singapore Chess Federation is the governing body of Chess in Singapore. Our classes are taught by FIDE trainers and coaches, using a curated lesson plan to holistically develop a player’s chess skills.
How is the progression like for students?
We strive to match students in a similar class of similar skill. Generally a player may be legible for promotion to the next level based on their performance in the previous course.
Do you offer adult chess courses?
We welcome everyone to play chess! While our main demographic is between 6 – 14 years old, our classes are open to anyone that wishes to take them. Beyond our classes we also provide support for parachess and other underserved communities, if this interests you, you can reach out to us!
