
13th ASEAN Para Games, Nakhon Ratchasima Thailand: Nomination Policy (26 May – 30 November 2025)
Background:
The 13th ASEAN Para Games will be held from 20 – 26 January 2026. This Nomination Policy contains key information on the types of chess events to be held, eligibility and application process.

Training and Preparation:
Nominees are highly encouraged to join the Para Chess Programme of the Singapore Chess Federation (SCF).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the 13th ASEAN Para Games, the participant must:
- Be a Singapore citizen
- Comply with the sport-specific classification rules
- Be in good standing with SCF, Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) and Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC)
- Minimum 15 years of age as of 2025 (Calculation: 2025 minus year born)
The results from the following tournaments shall be considered by the SCF High Performance Committee for the internal longlist:
- Official para chess regional events
- Other FIDE rated tournaments where relevant
- FIDE Rating
- Online tournaments with rapid time control (15 mins + 10 seconds increment) and above
From these tournaments, a player shall be nominated to Singapore National Paralympic Council for consideration if he/she has demonstrated the potential to finish among the top 3 finishers or represent high potential.
Other considerations:
In addition to the above selection criteria, the following may be taken into consideration:
- Attitude and behaviour towards coaches, teammates, fellow athletes, officials and sports administrators, whether in relation to sporting matters or otherwise
- General conduct and character which may affect the reputation, image, values or best interests of the athlete or the sport
- Past disciplinary record
- Current skill level, injury status and fitness level
- Level of commitment and attendance
- Potential for future development
- Ability to demonstrate team spirit and work well with teammates and officials; and
- Such other non-performance related qualities as the selectors may consider to be relevant.
Application Process and Tentative Timeline (subject to the organiser’s final confirmation):
- Interested parties who wish to be nominated shall submit their application via email to hpe@singaporechess.org.sg with the subject header [Application for ASEAN Para Games 2026]
- The email should indicate the event that the players are keen to participate in, recent tournament results that support their nomination and FIDE rating.
- The SCF High Performance Committee shall select the names for the longlist and submit the list by 31 May 2025.
Appeals:
Players can lodge an appeal by writing to hpe.appeals@singaporechess.org.sg, with the subject header [Appeal – 2026 ASEAN Para Games Nomination]. The email should contain relevant recent results that may have taken place after the longlist has been submitted.
- The HPE appeals committee will make the final decision on appeals.
