Rulang Primary Pupils Visit SCF for “From Pawns to Queens” Initiative

On 22 May 2026, the Singapore Chess Federation was delighted to host 35 pupils from Rulang Primary School at the SCF premises. The visit was organised as part of the federation’s ongoing “From Pawns to Queens” chess-in-schools initiative, which aims to foster a love for the game, nurture young talent, and promote holistic development through chess education.

The afternoon began with the students participating in a structured Evaluation and Sorting Test. To accommodate the diverse proficiency levels of the young players, the SCF prepared two distinct assessment papers. The first paper was tailored for beginners to gauge their foundational understanding, while the second paper was designed to challenge more experienced players, specifically those aiming to transition into the National Junior Squad (NJS) system.

Following the completion of the assessments, the pupils attended an interactive mini-lesson and game review conducted by SCF CEO GM Kevin Goh. GM Goh shared critical tactical insights and professional wisdom, encouraging the students to think deeply about strategy and perseverance. The session was highly collaborative, with a dedicated team of SCF coaches providing hands-on guidance and mentorship to the students throughout the activities.

From Pawns to Queens is a project built on the philosophy that every beginner has the potential to achieve greatness through dedication and the right support. Seeing the focus and enthusiasm from the Rulang Primary pupils today reinforces our commitment to school outreach.

The SCF extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff and students of Rulang Primary School for allowing us to play a part in their chess journeys. We look forward to welcoming more schools to the SCF as we continue to cultivate the next generation of strategic thinkers.
